The Oak Glen High School Band will be playing at the West Virginia Region 1 Band Festival this Friday, April 20, 2012. The band participates in this event every year, and will be involved in festivities this year as well. The band goes down there, plays one to two tunes (with the option of doing a sight-reading as well) in front of three judges qualified in the field of music, and then receives a number from the panel of judges to score their performances. Furthermore, everything is recorded live with the commentary of the judges so that the band can improve upon their weaknesses ~ this also helps the band to know their strong points from the comments.
During the performance, outsiders are welcomed to sit in the theatre where the bands perform and listen to the music. Usually you see a lot of parents there, but community members come as well in support of their local bands. So if you have nothing to do this Friday, you can come down (if you like) to West Virginia Region 1 Band Festival in support our local pride and band.
The band will be leaving the the High School at 10:00a.m.. They will be there probably late in the 11th hour to get themselves set up for their performance. They will be on the stage warming up at 12:00p.m., and are scheduled to perform for the judges at 12:40p.m. ~ so plan accordingly.
Here are directions to John Marshall High School for anyone not sure (click text below this line please):
Follow this link to AAA Directions from Chester, WV.
~When you get to this link, please start with #5. This is with my directions, but when I just put Chester it doesn't take you the same way. I would recommend the Ohio side to save time, In WV you have all kinds of hills and valleys to pass through.
If I am able to make this event, I will report on the band's progress at a later time. Never-the-less, hope to see you there in support of our band.
