"NEW CUMBERLAND - The city Christmas Parade is set to begin at 5 p.m. Saturday.
This year's theme is "Let it Snow," and lineup will begin at 4 p.m. at Marshall Street and proceed north on state Route 2 to the the city volunteer fire department, according to Tammy Jenkins, city clerk and parade committee member.
"Santa Claus will be at the fire department following the parade," said Jenkins, adding cookies will be available for the little ones, and parents are welcome to take photos of children with St. Nick if they bring their own cameras.
Jenkins said the parade will include floats, the Weir and Oak Glen high school marching bands, units from the Hancock County Sheriff Department and City Police, the city fire department and other neighboring emergency first-responders.
"I think we have about 30 entries this year," said Jenkins, adding the parade typically is well attended by city residents.
The National Weather Service is predicting nearly perfect parade weather, with clear skies and temperatures in the mid-20 to the 30s for Saturday evening. Late entries are welcome to show up during lineup, said Jenkins. For information, call (304) 670-4108."
Oak Glen High School Marching Band will be there. Come support them, and just enjoy the parade. I will be there taking records of the band (as usually), so you might even see me there walking around. Hope to see you.
